BLOG/NEWS

For those of you who have been paying attention to this website, I'm sure that you've noticed it change yet again! For one, the textured background I had in the previous design was taking way too long to load on slow servers. It's a pet peeve of mine when sites take long to load, so I decided to go the route of a simple white background and a small image so I don't get annoyed every time I go to my own website.

The other main reason for changing my site again is because I don't really have a great, solid body of work that I would be proud to call my "portfolio." During 2008, I decided to concentrate all of my efforts on becoming a comic book artist. No more oil painting for me! The current artwork I have to show is basically my studies in becoming a better penciller and inker. I don't feel that this body of work I'm producing is at a professional level yet, so I don't want to give people the impression that I really know what I'm doing. Because I don't. Yet. Until my trusty comic book artist friend, Zach Howard (who is helping me improve my skills), says it's a professional level, I won't consider it to be so. AND it will make my life when art directors in the industry consider it professional. THEN I will post a portfolio.

Until then, I'll just stick to updates featuring art projects I'm working on and whatever else I think you wonderful friends, family, or followers would find interesting.

For my first post, I present to you an illustration based on the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Surprise surprise! I'm sure those of you who know me didn't see that one coming. Pencils, inks, then colored in Photoshop.

Yesterday I met with Daniel Crosier who does many creative things, including film, but at the moment he mainly draws comics. His style is very unique because he draws and cuts onto wood panels, something that I've never encountered before. Check out his stuff at Thoth Engine Productions.

I recently got hired to do the art part of a science fiction online graphic novel. Below are some concept designs I've been fiddling around with. Also, a family portrait of my friend (Phil Lietz, see link to the left), his wonderful, overly-gernerous, ridiculously caring, and generally fantastic Moms, and their son, Dexter.
